Born into family of musicians, Artas Balakauskas started his music education at M.K.Čiurlionis
School of Arts (nowadays - M.K.Čiurlionis Arts Gymnasium) in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he studied
with E.Gedgaudas and L.Drąsutienė. Later he obtained degrees in Piano Performance, Pedagogy
and Chamber Music from the prestigious P.Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory of Music, under
the guidance of S.Alumian and V.Krianev. Artas was later awarded a scholarship from
V.Landsbergis Foundation to pursue his studies at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where
he was awarded the highest Diplomas in Performance and Chamber Music.
Laureate of several National and International piano competitions (namely in St. Nom la
Bretèche in France), Artas Balakauskas is very active both as a performer and teacher. He has
embarked on concert tours in France, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, New Zealand and India. In
Chamber Music Artas has collaborated with violinists Roman Nodel, Charles Castelman, cellist
Edith Salzmann, participated in several music festivals in Lithuania, Thailand and New Zealand.
Alongside his wife, Indhuon Srikaranonda, Artas formed a Piano Duo team. During the 20 years
of artistic collaboration, the Duo performed the core repertoire for Piano 4 hands, and Two pianos,
as well as pioneered the performances of contemporary composers.
During the years of 2015 - 2017 Artas Balakauskas performed all 32 Piano Sonatas by L.van
Beethoven in a concert series organized by Bösendorfer Thailand.
