Yusuke Komura began his studies of piano at the age of 6, and from that time forward he continued to show his remarkable talent as a pianist. He relocated to New Zealand in 2001 where he started his studies under Dr. Thomas Hecht, he also took the time to learn the harpsichord. Graduating from Paraparaumu college with first class honors in Music, he pursued his career as a classical pianist. He was the first Japanese pianist to graduate from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory with a Bachelor’s degree (Honors) at National University of Singapore. After spending 2 years at College of Charleston for his Artist’s Diploma, he moved to Chicago to complete his Master’s degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. In 2016 Yusuke received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Wisconsin- Madison under the tutelage of Christopher Taylor.
As an in-school competition winner, he toured greater Chicago area to perform solo works in 2010. In 2013, he won a concerto competition at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and performed Piano Concerto in A minor by Grieg which was broadcasted on Wisconsin- radio along with an interview. He was selected to participate in Midwest International Piano competition.
Yusuke also has performed internationally as a collaborative pianist. Throughout his studies he has worked as a chamber musician under the guidance of Dr. Thomas Hecht, Enrique Graf, Meng-Chieh Liu, and Martha Fischer. In 2009 he won a piano assistantship at Roosevelt university whose duty included collaborating with various instrumentalists, as well as accompanying diction class for vocalists, opera production, and vocal recitals under supervision of Dr. Dana Brown.
While creating arrangements for piano as well as other instruments have been his interest since his early age, it is only in recent years that he started creating arrangements of folk songs and popular songs regularly. He has organized annual concerts dedicated to his arrangements for solo, solo instruments with piano, and other chamber settings.
Yusuke has performed many master classes presented by international concert artists such as Marian Hahn, Peter Takás, Hugues Leclère, Gilbert Kalish, and Martin Katz.
Between 2017-2024, he served as a Chief Piano Instructor at the head quarter of Siam Music Yamaha Thailand, overseeing the quality of the teachers as well all collaborating with numerous institutions/artists/organization for projects such as performances, competitions, examinations, and so on. His students have won numerous prizes at both domestic and international competitions, performing at world class venues such as Carnegie Hall.
Currently He is enjoying a career of performing, and appearing in masterclasses, and serving as a jury member in competitions internationally.
